Speech flags planning system reforms

The government plans to introduce changes to the planning system according to the Queen’s Speech.

"This government is committed to reform of the planning system to meet today’s challenges and make it more effective, timely and certain" said the Queen.

"Although significant reforms have been introduced and good progress made since 2000, the planning process can still take too long and the outcome can be too uncertain. We want to see performance improve even further."

A Climate Change Bill was also announced, which aims to encourage: "households, businesses and government to use less energy and improving the energy efficiency of new and existing housing."

This could include encouraging increased use of insulation or double glazing.
